Postseason is upon us. Our local high school softball teams opened tournament play on Monday night and the baseball teams are awaiting their July 13 start.
When district play begins, the Sioux Center baseball team will play against Western Christian at 5 p.m. on July 13 in Orange City. Unity Christian will host Sheldon at 7 p.m.
The winner of the contest between the Warriors and the Wolfpack will advance to a district semifinal against West Lyon. That game will be played July 16 after the other district semifinal between West Sioux and the winner of the Unity first-round game.
It all sets up for a July 20 district final at Larchwood. Which ever team emerges from that game will play a substate final at Cherokee on July 23.
The Unity Christian softball team saw its season end on Monday night against MVAOCOU. The Knights lost 7-4.
Western Christian advanced past Lawton-Bronson with a 7-2 victory. The Wolfpack will play West Sioux on July 10 in Sioux Center. That game is slated to begin at 5 p.m.
Should Western advance, the Wolfpack will play either West Lyon or Hinton in a regional semifinal. Teams on the other side of the region include Alta-Aurelia, Cherokee, Woodbury Central and MVAOCOU.
Sioux Center was thrown into Class 3A Region 7. Tournament play starts July 10 for the Warriors at home against MOC-Floyd Valley. The teams play at 7 p.m.
The Warriors would play at Treynor on July 12 if they get past the Dutch. The highest remaining seed in the region will host the July 15 regional final at 7 p.m.
Summer sports are a big commitment. The kids have undoubtedly put in plenty of time and effort into making 2019 a successful summer season.
Here’s hoping they perform their best when it matters most!
