Central Lyon/George-Little Rock junior dropped a 10-5 decision to Evan Rosonke of New Hampton/Turkey Valley in the 195-pound title match.
Rosonke led 5-0 early on. Winkel rallied to tie the score at 5-5 after two periods, but Rosonke got a reversal and back points in the third to end the match.
Winkel ended the season with a 43-1 record.
West Sioux senior Adam Allard is denied in his attempt at a fourth state championship, dropping a 4-2 decision to Aiden Noonan of Cascade in the 126-pound championship match. Allard finishes his senior year 50-1. The championship loss was just the second of his high school career.
"This one is going to sting for a while," said West Sioux coach Mark Van Oort. "It will take time to heal. I don't know if a lot of men can get up off the man, after a moment like that, shake his opponent's hand and not throw a fit
"Adam handled it all like a man. Just like he never celebrated a victory.He didn't let this define him in a negative manor."
Allard finished his career 204-2.
"He is a champion of champions and the things he as done for our program are things most people only dream about," Van Oort said.
