Athlete of the Week: Hannah Butler

 Feature Q&A with Hannah Butler

What is your favorite pro sports team? Oklahoma City Thunder for sure. I’ve been to a few games in OKC!

What is your favorite college sports team? University of Nebraska. GO BIG RED!

Who is your favorite athlete? Serena Williams. I’ve looked up to her for as long as I can remember.

Do you have a pet? No.

Do you have a nickname? My friends call me Han or Hannah banana.

What is your preferred method of social media? I would say twitter.

People would be surprised to know that you? I cannot think of one thing to say here. My family members couldn’t even think of anything. I’m an “open book.”

Which of your teammates is most intense? Martha Stein for sure. There is no one that takes the game of golf more seriously than her.

Which of your teammates makes you laugh? 100% Faith Pearson. There isn’t one thing that comes out of her mouth that doesn’t make us all bust out laughing. (Even Martha ; ) )Grace Booth is another one that makes me laugh all the time.

What do you do on a long bus ride? I sleep on the way to every meet. I have since my freshman year. But when I wake up I listen to music and talk to the girls.

What is your pregame ritual? The night before a big meet, my sister Grace (who also plays on the team) and I get a slushy and drive around and listen to music. It’s a just a good way to calm any nerves and relax before a meet. Then at the meets I listen to the same song before I get out of the car. (The song is a secret . . . sorry!)

What is your favorite part of sports? I love competing. It’s just a huge adrenaline rush. When I step up to the first tee I can literally feel my pulse in my hands and the feeling you get after hitting it down the middle is second to none.

What is your favorite sports memory? I have a lot of favorite memories. I think the look on my dad’s face after I shot par on the front nine of the second day of state last year is one of them for sure, but everything about the last two years of golf with my teammates will be one huge memory that I’ll never forget. I’m beyond grateful for every single one of them.
