REMSEN — The Remsen St. Mary’s softball team didn’t want to be overshadowed by their counterparts on the baseball diamond. After the RSM baseball team opened the season with three no-hitters in the opening week of the season, the softball team started their season Monday with a no-hitter of their own against Unity Christian.

Marina Cronin worked three innings in the circle, giving up just a walk and hit batter while striking out eight. Josie Schwickerath tossed two innings of relief, walking one and striking out three.

The RSM offense worked quickly, jumping out to an 8-0 lead after an inning and they added their final three runs in the second frame of their 11-0 win which lasted just five innings.

Claire Schroeder and Mya Bunkers led the charge from the top of the order. The pair each had a single, double and triple in the win. Schroeder led the team with a 4 RBI performance. Bunkers drove in a pair of runs.

Hannah Klein had the team’s other multi-hit game with a pair of singles. Halle Galles and Octavia Galles added a double apiece for the team.

All of the runs came against Paige De Boom who took the loss in the circle.

RSM has won the last 10 meetings in the series. The two teams will meet again in June for the conference-counting contest.

The RSM baseball team’s game against the Knights was canceled due to players being at the state golf tournament.
