Sioux Center’s low unemployment rate and low violent crime rate were some of the factors that led website HomeSnacks to rank Sioux Center as one of the Top 10 places in Iowa to live.

SIOUX CENTER—Sioux Center is the place to be, according to a new ranking from an online website.

In HomeSnacks’ list of the Top 10 places to live in Iowa for 2020, Sioux Center ranks No. 7.

HomeSnacks has ranked the best places in Iowa to live six times now, calling Sioux Center a cool college town and an example as a good place to raise a family.

Article writer Chris Kolmar wrote, “Sioux Center is another great city in Iowa with a low unemployment rate and where residents earn high salaries.”

He goes on to include a review of the city left on website www.City-Data.com that noted how safe the city is, the beautiful houses and neighborhoods and friendly residents.

Sioux Center moved up one spot in this year’s list compared to the site’s 2019 list.

Scott Wynja, Sioux Center’s city manager, was pleased to see the city place so well.

“We have a lot going on in the community and a wide variety of partnerships and collaborative cooperation that we have in the community,” Wynja said. “It’s great to see that recognized.”

Wynja felt the rank resonates with the positive atmosphere and works going on in the community.

“We want to keep that positive tone going forward and hopefully all our partners continue in that positive nature,” Wynja said.

Although Sioux Center is the only city in N’West Iowa to break the Top 10, two other cities in the region also ranked well. LeMars finished as the 20th best place in the state to live, and Sheldon is their 22nd best place in the state to live.

When making their list, HomeSnacks considered a variety of factors.

For starters, they took the size of the different communities into consideration, categorizing them in three tiers: cities (populations above 5,000), towns (populations between 1,000 and 5,000) and small towns (populations below 1,000).

The site looked at cities when making this list.

Among those categorized as cities, the site ranked on a scale between one and 74 each city based on a number of factors.

Those factors were median home values, median income, population density, unemployment rate, commute time, crime, education levels, health insurance coverage and poverty rates.

Sioux Center ranked particularly well against other Iowa cities in terms of the city’s commute times (best in the state), violent crime rates (second best) and unemployment rate (third best).

HomeSnacks is a website that seeks to help people find a place to live that fits them, gathering data on a variety of factors to make a variety of rankings for cities, counties and states.
