SIOUX CENTER—Lightning struck a tree Friday evening, Aug. 9, resulting in damage to a Sioux Center home.
The storm began rolling over Sioux Center about 8:45 p.m.
A limb struck by lighting fell next to a home at 692 13th Ave. N.E. owned by Richard Groenedyk, damaging the home’s roof as well as broke a couple of windows and part of its front porch railing.
Tree debris littered the yard.
Gerald Van Voorst, who lives just a half block south of where the lighting hit, said the force of the loud bang knocked a picture off a wall in his home.
“That was a bone-shaking moment,” he said.
