712 Realty signs come to Sioux Center

Darren and Darla Van’t Hul of Hull launched 712 Realty as of March 1 to support residential and acreage-based home buying and selling from Hull to Sioux Center and the surrounding communities.

SIOUX CENTER—A husband-wife pair are teaming up to bring a new business to the area, signs of which are already popping up in town.

Darla and Darren Van’t Hul of Hull launched 712 Realty as of March 1 to support residential and acreage-based home buying and selling from Hull to Sioux Center and the surrounding communities.

“Our goal and tag line is ‘Leading you Home,’ wherever that is in the 712 area code,” Darla said.

Becoming Realtors was a career switch for both.

After a career of doing hair for many years, Darla, 54, developed carpal tunnel in her right hand and began considering other career options. Darren suggested she consider real estate, thinking it would be a great fit for her skill-set.

“She is an excellent communicator, personable and loves to help people,” Darren said.

Darla said after much prayer, convincing and studying, she became a real estate agent working for another broker in 2017.

“I just love people,” she said. “I love meeting new people and I love helping people. Making connections with and for people has always been a favorite of mine.”

Darren said Darla’s dedication to her clients and passion to help others are what motivate her the most.

“From her 30 years of customer service experience, she is an excellent listener and provides experienced care and service in the real estate industry,” he said. “Darla has used her knowledge and expertise to assist clients in the purchasing and selling of commercial, agricultural and residential real estate.”

Darren, 53, formerly worked as a choir director for Western Christian High School in Hull. Originally, Darren planned to wait a while before leaving teaching, but he said circumstances and the Lord’s guidance changed that decision and he became a full-time real estate agent under another broker last summer.

“Darren’s past experiences in teaching have equipped him with a passion to help and serve people, and a keen eye for detail,” Darla said. “He realizes that your home is one of the biggest investments of your life. You can rely on him to help you navigate the purchasing or selling of your property and to make the process enjoyable and as carefree as possible.”

They started their own brokerage this spring because of encouragement of friends and other key people in their lives.

“We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support we have received,” Darren said. “With that support and other circumstances that God had placed in our lives as well, it seemed like the right time to take a leap of faith.”

As a N’West Iowa native, Darren also believes this area is one of the best places to live because of the strong communities and friendly, caring people.

They believe their connections throughout the county helps draw people to their brokerage.

“Through my experiences in working in a service industry for many years and Darren being a teacher for the past 31 years, we have had the privilege of meeting and knowing so many different people, from all walks of life in this community,” Darla said. “We are blessed to have many different relationships. We believe we have built a trustworthiness and caring attitude with the people we have met and who know us.”

They renovated Darla’s hair salon space attached to their home into their home office, which has a separate entrance to use as a home base for operations. However, most of their contacts take place in a seller’s homes with closing being at area banks.

In addition to being in real estate, Darren is a part-time adjunct voice teacher at Dordt University in Sioux Center.

They have three adult children, two of which are married, a son in high school and their first grandchild on the way. Darla’s hobbies include interior design and serving in her church and community. Together, the couple enjoys spending time with family and friends, especially attending their youngest son’s music and sporting events.

“We really want to use the gifts God has blessed us with, to help bless others in the process,” Darla said. “We want our customers to be confident that we will oversee all matters, with the utmost integrity and provide them with the best care possible. We are devoted to assisting them in every way possible.”
