Roof Garden seeks memorabilia

The Roof Garden Ballroom at Arnolds Park Amusement Park is seeking memorabilia to illustrate the storied history of this music venue.

First opened in 1923 and closed after the 1987 season, the Roof Garden is being rebuilt in the Amusement Park as a concert venue, but rather than dancing on its second level — like the original 1923 building — the new Roof Garden will showcase many of the famous acts that have performed there over the decades.

The grand opening concert — featuring an act that performed in the original ballroom, Tommy James & The Shondells — will be held on Aug. 2.

They are hoping that memorabilia still exists to help illustrate the venue’s history through displays, photos or other items from the Roof Garden. They are seeking donations of interior photos of the Roof Garden, advertising and flyers, physical objects like signs, ashtrays and promotional items, musical instruments and more.

The group will accept donations through June 15. The items will be displayed on an elevated walkway around the dance floor.
