Summer isn’t summer without a day at the beach with a cooler filled with grapes, cheetos and A&W Root Beer.
Ever since I can remember, that’s been a tradition on my birthday each year. Having been born and raised in northern Minnesota, sometimes the water was still a bit chilly on the day, but we’d head out anyway. Our summer wouldn’t be complete without that tradition.
Every family has their own traditions and events that they simply must do every summer. We asked our Facebook followers what their Okoboji traditions are and we got some fun responses! We’ll share a few of them with you here!
“Somedays we just like to relax at the beach with our toes in sand and a good magazine in our hand. OBW is our favorite beach spot.”
- Laura Snyder, Spirit Lake
“Our tradition is taking a picture every year of our granddaughters. We take ‘butt’ pictures. First one was 13 years ago when we had one granddaughter. Last year ours included nine granddaughters.”
- Chris Jones, Sun Lakes, AZ
“Our favorite Okoboji tradition is watching the Queen pass by from our boat on the lake.”
- Megan Van Otterloo, Spencer
