Condo makes lakes life stress-free for Watt family
Lake life for Bruce and Marianne Watt is easy.
And that’s exactly what they wanted when they purchased a condo at The Pointe at Bridges Bay Resort in January of 2018.
“We used to own a lake home on Green Lake in Minnesota when the kids were younger and we loved it, but we took a break from lake living for a while. We like having a home on the lake, but it is a lot of work. You drive there on a Friday, mow the lawn and get all the toys out. Play all day Saturday and Sunday and then put it all away, go home and you’re exhausted,” said Bruce.
When they were looking for a spot in Okoboji, they wanted something a little different. “We were looking for a little simpler lifestyle. Something we could just enjoy without all the work,” Bruce said. “That’s what’s great about the condo. A lot of that maintenance stuff is taken care of. It’s really nice.”
Their condo at The Pointe features four bedrooms and three bathrooms and totals 2,200 square feet. The condo includes a large outdoor living area that runs the length of the space from the common area of the condo down to the master suite.
“The most important thing, of course, for us when we were looking at places was for that lake view. Since we are up so high the view is just awesome. You walk out and it’s right there,” Bruce said.
Glass safety railings help capitalize on the view so that when you are inside the condo and look out the window you have a close to unimpeded view out to the water. The outside deck area is large enough for a sitting area or a table. The Watts utilized the space by placing some comfortable seating around a gas fire feature.
“We like being able to sit out there and have a fire while enjoying the view of the lake,” Bruce said.
That view greets you as soon as you enter the condo. A wide, roomy hallway leads to the open concept main area complete with kitchen, dining and living spaces.
“We like the open concept and we like an open floor plan as it is nice for when everyone is there to spend time together,” Bruce said.
The kitchen features a large island with quartz countertops. The lower cabinets are an appealing coffee color to help ground the space, contrasted with the upper cabinets in bright white.
The flooring throughout the condo is an easy to maintain engineered hardwood.
The living room space features beautiful built-in cabinetry as well as an electric fireplace. The furniture in the space was chosen to be great for lake living as it is comfortable and easy. The bedrooms throughout are set up for family.
The couple is willing to sell the condo completely furnished.
The Watts enjoy the ease of condo living as they have no outdoor maintenance. Even from their upper level unit, getting down to the water is easy with a golf cart for transportation to the dock.
When the Watts bought the condo it was the perfect fit. But with some changes in where their children have settled, it might not be the perfect spot for them anymore.
“We had great plans on a lot of our family being around but now those family members are moving away. Our three children are all over the place now, and we are still five to seven years away from retirement so we just aren’t sure what is the right vacation property for us right now,” Bruce said.
“We had a vision when we bought it that it would be awesome for us for when we retired. We could spend the entire summer at the condo and live our day-to-day life there and our kids with their young families could come and visit. It’s a great place, but maybe just not for where we are right now.”
