SIOUX CENTER—Lila Jayne Kempers, 78, Sioux Center, died Saturday, May 25, 2019, at Sioux Center Health under hospice care.
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 1, at First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Carl Klompien officiating. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until the time of a prayer service at 10:15 a.m. Saturday at the church, then burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center before the memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Lila was born Jan. 10, 1941, in Sioux Center. She attended Sioux Center Christian and Western Christian High School. She then furthered her education by attending Reformed Bible College (now known as Kuyper College) in Grand Rapids, MI, before graduating from Northwestern College in Orange City. She completed her education by obtaining her master’s degree in social work and counseling from University of South Dakota. She then used this education in her work at Mid Sioux Opportunity and Hope Haven.
Lila was thankful for the life she had and all the things she was able to do. She loved to travel and was an avid reader. She was a mentor for Crossroads Prison Ministry for 25 years. She was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. Lila was a dear sister, aunt and a friend of many. She will be missed!
She is survived by sister Delaine (Marv) Mulder; brother Alan (Brenda) Kempers; nephew Joel (Kristin) Mulder and their sons, Noah, Isaiah and Elijah; nephew Nathan (Abbey) Mulder and their daughter Salomae and son Jachin; nephew Corey (Krystle) Kempers and their sons, Clayton and Greyson; niece Jennifer (Joel) Van Otterloo and their daughters, Amelia, Abbie and Marcie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Anna (Calkhoven) Kempers.
