SIOUX CENTER—Gerrit Vande Hoef, 97, Sioux Center, died Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Hegg Health Center in Rock Valley.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 24, at Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center, with the Rev. H. Hofman officiating.
Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Sioux Center.
Visitation with no family present will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, July 23, at the funeral home and 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The Vande Hoef family prefers memorials be directed to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley or Regency Retirement Residence of Sioux Center.
Gerrit Vande Hoef was born Oct. 24, 1923, near Lebanon, IA, the son of William and Hattie (Hup) Vande Hoef.
On Feb. 26, 1948, he was united in marriage to Cornelia “Nellie” Blom. After their marriage they farmed near Sioux Center and moved into town in 1972. His wife, Nellie passed away Oct. 12, 1989. Gerrit moved to Regency Retirement Residence in 1992. In 2015, Gerrit moved to Franken Manor in Sioux Center and moved again in June 2020 to Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.
Gerrit worked at AMPI Milk Plant for five years before starting a 30-year career at Gro Shop. He retired in the mid-’80s. He served on the NRC School Board for many years and enjoyed traveling with the bus tours and visiting with friends.
He is survived by two sisters, Judy Groeneweg and Gertrude Den Boer, both of Rock Valley, IA; two sisters-in-law, Tillie Blom of Rock Valley, IA, and Jennie Blom of Corsica, SD; and several nieces, nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hattie Vande Hoef; and his wife of 41 years, Nellie Vande Hoef.
