WESTMINSTER, CO—Dorothy Winifred Schilling, 86, of Westminster, Colorado, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021.

Service was Friday, Sept. 10, in Wheat Ridge, CO.

Dorothy was born in Rushmore, Minnesota, to the late Logan and Winnie Wills.

Dorothy graduated from Sibley High School in 1953 and a year later she married the love of her life, LeRoy Schilling. Together they had three children, Linda, Lorrie and Doug. They created a solid foundation for their entire family to grow and thrive, giving the children good and long lasting memories of a loving childhood.

As the children left the home, Dorothy went to work at age 50 or so. She started working in an elementary school kitchen where she worked her way up to kitchen manager, which she did for about 25 years. In 2003, she received Adams County District 50 Outstanding Educational Support Professional award. She stepped down from the management position, but remained working until she was 79 years old. She would say that she didn’t want to work when she was 80 years old.

Music was very important to Dorothy. She loved the toe-tapping old-time Gospel music, country, polkas and waltzes. She loved to play the piano, especially the hymns, and played since she was a child. She found great joy sitting at the piano with her great grandchildren, showing them how to play simple tunes.

Dorothy was a true matriarch of the family. She showed an abundance of love for the family and made sure the legacy of her family lived on after the passing of her dear LeRoy in 2003, saying things like “Dad would have wanted it this way” or “I think Dad is telling me to do this.” LeRoy and Dorothy always kept their home and yard perfect and Dorothy made sure that didn’t stop. She and her daughters like to assemble glass lawn flower ornaments. She would have them displayed in her rock garden. She would say her rock gardens were low maintenance since they didn’t need watering and their faces could even peek through the snow.

Dorothy always had a warm personality and upbeat attitude. Dorothy was known to be an avid cleaner. Seeing her home in perfect condition brought such pride and joy to her. Dorothy was very independent up until 2021. She looked forward to going to her various exercise classes every day. Although she was raised Lutheran, Dorothy attended a Southern Baptist church in her later years where she met so many dear friends. They were drawn to her warm personality, quiet demander and positive attitude. She was a member of the Arvada Senior Center, a Widows Group, and MAC (Westminster Senior Center).

Dorothy is survived by her children, Linda Milhollin and spouse Ray of Lakewood, CO, Lorrie Ruff and spouse Steve of Denver, Doug Schilling and spouse Christy of Houston; grandchildren Brianna Herridge and spouse JD, Brendan Schilling and spouse Christine, DJ Schilling and spouse Nick, JJ Schilling and spouse Querzi, Christopher Schilling, all of the Houston area; great-grandchildren: Kamryn, Taylor, Emma, Elena, Easton, Eve, all of the Houston area; and a brother, Lorn Wills of Sanborn.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Leroy Schilling; grandchildren Dustin Rodriguez (Ruff) and Tony Milhollin; siblings Marlys Jurrens, Russell Wills, Delbert Wills, Lynne Wills and Lyle Wills.
