SIBLEY—Dick Grave, age 67, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019, at his home in Sibley.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 26, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sibley, with the Rev. Barbara Kopperud and the Rev. Jay Grave officiating.
Burial to follow at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley, with military honors by VFW and American Legion, Osceola County.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, with family present 3-5 p.m., at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.
Richard (Dick) Walter Grave was born on Aug. 28, 1951, in Sioux City, IA. He was the son of John and Ruth (Palmer) Grave. He lived his youth in Chamberlain, SD, and Sibley, IA. He attended Sibley High School where he graduated. Dick served in the United States Army until he was diagnosed with cancer and honorably discharged.
He was united in marriage to Janice Blochowitz on July 29, 2000. While living in Sibley, he owned and operated Dick’s Sanitation for 15 years. Upon the sale of his Sanitation business, Dick worked as the Director of Maintenance for the Sibley-Ocheyedan School District, from 1998 until his retirement in 2014.
Dick liked to camp, woodwork and visit with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, along with sitting outside talking to strangers, making friends, and riding his motorcycle. As a youth, he enjoyed catching crawdads with his brothers and playing in the Missouri River with the local town kids. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Sibley, IA, and VFW American Legion.
Dick is survived by his wife, Janice and his children: Tracy (Jeff) Jones, Shantelle Rockman, Abby Fisher, Christina (Lonnie) Matthiesen, Annette Martin, Davina (Dan) Sandbeck, and Heather (Travis) Johnson; his brothers and sisters: Phyllis Bruns, Timothy Grave, Bonnie Vos, James Grave, Frank Grave, Patsy Butler and Robert Grave; 20 grandkids, and three great-grandkids.

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Ruth Grave; Eileen Grave (sister-in-law); Steven Grave (brother); Lawrence Bruns (brother-in-law); Jack Vos (brother-in-law); Jason Bryngelson (grandson); and Kamden Fisher (granddaughter).
