SHELDON—Darlene R. Krier, age 83, of Sheldon, passed away on Sunday, April 4, 2021, at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center.

A private family funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 7, with Pastor Dan Kunnari officiating.

Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

A public visitation with no family present will be 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Masks are recommended at the funeral home.

Darlene Rhae Miller, the daughter of Ray and Ivah (De La Mater) Miller, was born on Dec. 12, 1937, in Sheldon, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1954. After graduation she attended Northwestern College in Orange City for two years. On April 28, 1956, Darlene was united in marriage to Harold (Hiroshi) Tatsumi. To this union four children were born, Kim, Kathlene, Kurtis and Klinton. She returned to Northwestern and graduated with her teaching degree. Darlene taught Wee-Learners Pre-School out of the family home for many years. In 1975 Harold and Darlene founded K-T Industries. Harold preceded Darlene in death on Aug. 15, 1979. Darlene and her sons carried on with the business.

On Nov. 15, 1980, Darlene married Eugene Krier. Gene and Darlene enjoyed traveling the United States on business trips, sightseeing and antiquing along the way. Darlene enjoyed entertaining guests in their home, gardening and spending time with family.

Left to cherish Darlene’s memory are her husband, Gene of Sheldon, her children, Kim H. Tatsumi MD of Tucson, Arizona, Kathlene (Harlyn) Vander Vliet of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Kurt (Rebecca) Tatsumi and Klint (Raeanne) Tatsumi both of Sheldon; grandchildren, Chris Tatsumi, Krista (Paul) Honermann, Kristopher (Tiffany) Tatsumi, Jonathon (Amy) Vander Vliet, Kendra Vander Vliet, Nathan and Victoria Tatsumi; great grandchildren, Brett Tatsumi and Hayden and Charlie Honermann; sister, Norma Veldboom of Grinnell, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Tatsumi; her parents; and brother-in-law, Glenn Veldboom.
