SIOUX CENTER—A 39-year-old Port Orchard, WA, woman was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, on charges of fifth-degree theft and fifth-degree fraudulent practice in Sioux Center.
The arrest of Jami Eleen Pelkey stemmed from a call from Walmart staff that Pelkey had been stopped for shoplifting, according to the Sioux Center Police Department.
Police viewed a Walmart video on which Pelkey can be seen not scanning all of her items in the self-checkout line. She admitted to trying to steal items amounting to about $268.
Pelkey also was observed on video scanning a bar code for a pair of boots that cost less than the pair she was trying to buy. She also admitted to purposely scanning a different bar code, according to court records.
Pelkey had been caught shoplifting at Walmart before and advised not to enter the store.
She was cited for trespassing for that offense.
