LARCHWOOD—A 29-year-old Sioux City woman has been arrested on multiple charges after crashing a golf cart at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort near Larchwood on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

The arrest of Wihe Tonga stemmed from a call to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office about 5:15 p.m. from the casino regarding a disorderly and intoxicated person who was with a newborn child.

An investigation determined Tonga had driven a Grand Falls golf cart without permission and crashed it into landscaping, where it got stuck.

She then assaulted a casino security supervisor by pushing him when he attempted to stop her from entering the gaming floor.

Tonga at one point had a plastic up with alcohol in it and earlier had a bottle of vodka.

She also stole items from a table at the cafe, but the items were recovered by security and returned to the owner, according to court documents.

During her arrest, Tonga did not comply with orders to put her hands behind her back and she had to be picked up from the floor multiple times because of her unsteady balance.

Tonga was arrested and charged with child endangerment and operating without owner’s consent, aggravated misdemeanors. She also was charged with assault, interference with official acts, public intoxication, disorderly conduct, reckless driving and criminal mischief, simple misdemeanors.

The infant was placed in the custody of the Iowa Department of Human Services.
