ROCK VALLEY—A 57-year-old rural Rock Valley woman was arrested after the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at a residence at 2096 340th St., six miles southwest of Rock Valley.

The arrest of Shelly Rose Smit stemmed from a search warrant that was part of an ongoing drug investigation and search for a wanted person.

A green leafy substance consistent with marijuana, a brown oily substance consistent with THC wax and pipes consistent with pipes used to smoke marijuana and THC wax were found in the room being used by Smit.

During the search, Smit was placed in the back of a patrol car. A bag of a white crystalline powder that later tested positive for methamphetamine was found in the seat where she had been sitting.

As a result, Smit was arrested and transported to the Sioux County Jail in Orange City where she was charged with possession of controlled substances — methamphetamine and marijuana — third or subsequent offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The arrest also included multiple warrants through Sioux County, Lyon County and the Iowa State Patrol.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office during the search.
