OCHEYEDAN—Two Texas teenagers were arrested about 10:55 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, after a witness reported a motorist driving reckless while traveling west on Highway 9 near Ocheyedan.

The 2017 GMC Sierra was being driven 19-year-old Silviano Rodriguez III of Galena Park, TX, and the passenger was 18-year-old Alex Resendiz of Houston.

A deputy from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office located the pickup on Highway 9 north of Sibley and clocked it going 92 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone, according to court records.

Rodriguez refused to pull over and continued west on Highway 9 for two and a half miles while driving at a high rate of speed and passed another vehicle in a no-passing zone and committed other traffic violations.

The deputy detained Rodriguez in the back of his patrol vehicle after he finally stopped.

Rodriguez admitted he drank two beers and the deputy found two open 12 packs of Coronas in the back seat of the pickup and another six unopened beers in a cooler. There also was an open beer in the bed of the pickup.

Rodriguez and Resendiz consented to various sobriety tests. Rodriguez was charged with operating while intoxicated first offense and citations for speeding, prohibited passing, failure to obey traffic control device, driving on the wrong side of the road and passing contrary to highway sign or marking.

Resendiz was charged with possession of alcohol by a minor.
