ROCK VALLEY—Two people were arrested on drug-related charges about 1 a.m. Saturday, April 3, on private property near Rock Valley following a Nixle Tip to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrests 56-year-old Troy James Fodness of Hudson, SD, and 57-year-old Shelly Rose Smit of Rock Valley stemmed from a report of people carrying property into an apparent campsite along the Rock River near the intersection of 340th Street and Coolidge Avenue, eight miles southwest of Rock Valley, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies discovered Fodness was one of the persons carrying property into the area and camping along the river in a homemade tent, according to the incident report.
He was found to have outstanding warrants in Plymouth County and be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Fodness was charged with first-offense possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smit possessed marijuana earlier in the incident; she was charged with second-offense possession of a controlled substance — marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
