SUTHERLAND—A 78-year-old rural Sutherland man was killed in a tractor rollover Wednesday evening, July 10, near Sutherland.
According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Gary Lee Jungjohan had been mowing the north shoulder of 420th Street near its intersection with Van Buren Avenue when the 4020 John Deere tractor he was operating rolled into a ditch and on top of him.
The O’Brien County Communications Center received a call at approximately 6 p.m. about the accident, which occurred nearly six miles north of Sutherland on the east side of Van Buren Avenue.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the scene, they found the tractor upside down in the ditch north of 420th Street. The tractor had a bush mower mounted on its three-point hitch.
The Sutherland Ambulance and a Paullina police officer also responded to the scene to assist the sheriff’s office. The O’Brien County medical examiner pronounced Jungjohan dead at the scene.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 16, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland. Burial will be at Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland.
Visitation with family present will be held 5-7 p.m. Monday, July 15, at Warner Funeral Home in Sutherland.
