SIOUX CENTER—A 23-year-old Sioux City woman was arrested about 6:55 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest of Rayleigh Marie Thomas stemmed from a report of a disabled vehicle partially on Highway 75, three miles north of Sioux Center.
A strong odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle when Thomas, a passenger in the 2006 Ford 500, opened her car door.
A search of the vehicle located a purse at the feet of where Thomas was sitting.
In the purse was a small cloth bag containing a small plastic bag with a white crystalline substance that later tested positive for meth.
There also was a syringe and a glass pipe that had a thick white residue in it consistent with one used to smoke meth.
Deputies also determined Thomas was wanted on a Woodbury County warrant.
The sheriff’s office was assisted by the Sioux Center Police Department.
Authorities said the case remains under investigation.
