SIOUX CENTER—A 30-year-old Sioux Center man was arrested about 8:45 p.m. Sunday, April 25, on charges of first-offense operating while under the influence, eluding, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway, possession of an open container of alcohol and no valid driver’s license.
The arrest of Rudy Romeo Ramos Chilel stemmed from an officer observing a 2005 Volkswagen Jetta traveling west on Seventh Street Northwest at an abnormally slow speed and crossing the centerline, according to the Sioux Center Police Department.
The officer activated the top lights of his patrol vehicle at the corner of Grant Avenue and Seventh Street, but the Volkswagen continued south on Grant Avenue.
The officer then activated his emergency sirens and the Volkswagen continued for about two miles before pulling into a residence.
Ramos Chilel, the driver, had bloodshot, watery eyes; slurred speech; impaired balance and the odor of an alcoholic beverage and failed preliminary sobriety tests.
An open can of Modelo beer was in the Volkswagen’s cupholder.
