SIBLEY—The Good Ole Summertime Days celebration in Sibley has been turned up a notch over the last three years with the Party by the Pit.

The event is a concert hosted at the Sibley Golf & Country Club.

The band Sweet Siren will headline this year’s Party by the Pit on Saturday, June 8. Doors will open at 7 p.m. with Sweet Siren taking the stage at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.

“It originally began as a fundraiser for the Outdoor Aquatic Center,” said Sibley chamber director Ashley Ackerman. “When the pool group met their fundraising goal they asked the golf commission if they would be interested in continuing it.”

This is the second year that the golf commission has organized the event.

In 2018, more than 500 people attended the event with a concert by South Dakota-based rock band Judd Hoos.

Sweet Siren, a Minnesota-based band, plays an assortment of Top 40 music, rock ’n’ roll and country.

“The Party by the Pit is a great addition to Good Ole Summertime. Many families are home visiting and many class reunions will take place that day,” Ackerman said. “This event gives them another option for something to do while home for Good Ole Summertime.”

Concert-goers can grab hot dogs, chili dogs, nachos and more snacks provided by the Albert W. McCallum Museum. Volunteers will sell snacks at the event to raise money for a new museum building.

“The big help comes from the guys at the city of Sibley who set up the fencing, bring picnic tables and more,” Ackerman said. “Without their help this event would not happen. We are also fortunate to have a forward thinking golf course staff and membership who let an event like this happen on golf course grounds.”

The golf commission is seeking volunteers to help work at the event.

As for the golf course grounds, course superintendent Bill Hartzell said the course is handling the especially wet spring weather fairly well.

“We have just a couple of fairways that are a little moist,” he said. “We’re all excited to play golf and get outside.”
