SHELDON—The three schools in Sheldon once again received a donation from the Prairie Queen Kiwanis Club as part of the Kids in Need program.

Prairie Queen Kiwanis Club president John Boender and treasurer Duane Wahlstrom presented the donations to Sheldon School District superintendent Cory Myer, Sheldon Christian School principal Marlin Schoonhoven and St. Patrick’s Catholic School principal Jessica Schmalen during the group’s meeting Monday, Oct. 4.

“No strings attached. We appreciate what you do for the children,” said Boender, who became the president of the organization this month.

Each school received a $500 check.

Schoonhoven said the funding helps with student tuition at Sheldon Christian School.

“It goes to assist or offset some tuition a family or two that might be challenged to pay the total tuition to attend Sheldon Christian,” Schoonhoven said. “It is truly a blessing from some great community members. It’s great to have a positive relationship with the Prairie Queen Kiwanis.”

Myer echoed Schoonhoven’s comments. Myer was the featured speaker at Monday morning’s meeting.

“They are an outstanding group that cares so much about our kids. We are truly blessed to have such a caring service organization in our community,” Myer said. “I am extremely grateful for the work Kiwanis does in our community and for their financial support on an annual basis. Their donation is used to assist with funding various school activities and helping students in need.”

Schmalen also said the donation will be put toward tuition assistance.

“We always appreciate the Kiwanis donation,” she said. “It’s nice that they think of our school and are willing to help our students with this donation. We will put this donation toward tuition assistance and help a family or families that need help with their tuition.”
