Sheldon High School 2019 Homecoming Court

Brennan Chester, Sydney Olson, Madison Van Meeteren, Raegan Freeman, Mitchel Wolf, T.K. Lang, Ashley Brouwer, Troy Enger Jr., Trey Iedema and Hannah Uhl make up the 2019 Sheldon High School Homecoming Court. The king and queen will be crowned at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17.

SHELDON—“We Got the Beat” is the theme of Sheldon High School Homecoming 2019 and the Orabs’ football team hopes to cap a week of festivities by beating Estherville Lincoln Central.

Highlights for Homecoming Week — Sept. 16-20. — include dress-up days based on song titles, the king and queen coronation on Tuesday night and the nondistrict football game on Friday evening.

  •  “Game Time” is the dress-up theme for Monday, Sept. 16, when students and staff are asked to wear the jerseys or clothes supporting a sports team.

The ninth- and 10th-grade football team will host Sibley-Ocheyedan at 5 p.m. that day

  •  “Thriller” is the dress-up theme for Tuesday, Sept. 17, when students and staff are encouraged to wear a costume.

The seventh-grade football team will host South O’Brien at 4:15 p.m. while the eighth-grade football team will play the Wolverines at 5:15. The seventh-grade volleyball team will host Sibley-Ocheyedan at 4:15 p.m. while the eighth-grade volleyball will play at Sibley-Ocheyedan at 4:15 in Sibley.

The king and queen coronation is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the high school gym. A yet-to-named guest speaker will give an address before the crowning ceremony.

King candidates are Brennan Chester, Troy Enger, Trey Iedema, T.K. Lang and Mitchel Wolf.

Queen candidates are Ashley Brouwer, Raegan Freeman, Sydney Olson, Hannah Uhl and Madison Van Meeteren.

  •  “Let’s Get Physical” is the dress-up theme for Wednesday, Sept. 18, when students and staff are to cloth themselves in workout apparel.
  •  “Party in the USA” is the theme for Thursday, Sept. 19, when students and staff are to don outfits made up of red, white and blue.

The middle school and high school cross country teams will compete at the Charles Smith Invitational hosted by Sioux Central in Sioux Rapids at 4:15 p.m.

The seventh-grade volleyball team will play at MOC-Floyd Valley at 4:15 p.m. in Alton while the eighth-grade volleyball team will host MOC-Floyd Valley at 4:15. The ninth-grade, junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams will play at Siouxland Conference opponent Central Lyon with matches starting at 5:30 p.m. in Rock Rapids.

  •  “Our House” — or “Orange and Black Day” — is the final dress-up theme of the week on Friday, Sept. 20 when students and staff are asked to wear school colors.

High school students will spend much of the day enjoying a variety of activities, starting with a range of games indoors and out 10-11:30 a.m. The games include 9 Square in the Air, basketball, pickleball, corn hole, soccer, kickball, bingo, pingpong, KanJam, spikeball, dodgeball or board games or a movie will be shown in the auditorium.

Lunch will be hamburgers grilled by the O’Brien County Cattlemen’s Association.

There will be a male-only he-man volleyball match at noon followed by the female-only powder puff football game in the gym.

A talent show will be held at 1 p.m. in the auditorium.

Wrapping up the afternoon festivities will be a pep rally for all students K-12 at 2 p.m. back in the high school gym.

The Sheldon High School FFA will host a tailgate supper beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Orab Field.

The football game against Estherville Lincoln Central will kick off at 7 p.m.

The Marching Orabs will perform their contest field show, “Penté,” at halftime.

A homecoming dance in the high school commons will follow the game.

Homecoming Week will conclude Saturday, Sept. 21, with the Marching Orabs competing at the 2019 Pursuit of Excellence marching band competition at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN.

The junior varsity volleyball team will compete at the Unity Christian Invitational at 9 a.m. in Orange City.
