Accident or crime scene cordon tape

WILLMAR, MN—A Sheldon man was arrested after he accidentally shot a Minnesota woman in the leg.

According to the Willmar Police Department in Minnesota, Joey Schipper of Sheldon was staying at the Super 8 motel when he “had a negligent discharge of small caliber handgun.”

The bullet from Schipper’s gun traveled through a wall and struck a 68-year-old woman from Backus, MN, in the leg. Information from the police department does not specify how the firearm was discharged.

The woman, whose injury is considered non-life threatening, was taken to Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar by ambulance.

Authorities noted Schipper has been cooperative with the investigation.

The 34-year-old was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm.
