SHELDON—A 31-year-old Sheldon man was arrested about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, on a charge of first-offense operating while under the influence at the intersection of Highway 18 and Second Avenue in Sheldon.

The arrest of Robert Wayne Olson stemmed from the stop of a 1999 Chrysler Town & Country when the trooper could see the driver of the stopped van was not wearing his seat belt, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

In talking with Olson, the trooper could smell marijuana coming from him and Olson admitted to smoking a few hours before, according to court documents.

A drug recognition expert was contacted and conducted an evaluation of Olson.
