SHELDON—A 35-year-old Sheldon man has been arrested on multiple charges for assault after biting another man and then two law enforcement officers.

The arrest of David James Halbur stemmed from him allegedly biting another man on the forearm, leaving marks, about 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at the other man’s apartment in Sheldon, according to the Sheldon Police Department.

When officers attempted to arrest Halbur at his apartment at Northpark Apartments, he refused to come out and placed his hands in his pockets.

Halbur was ordered to take his hands out of his pockets and refused.

When officers attempted to grab him, he resisted and grabbed a pocket knife, which he then refused to drop, according to the incident report.

The officers then had to use force to subdue him.

During his apprehension, Halbur bit an O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office deputy in the hand, he struck another deputy in the chest and bit a Sheldon police officer, according to the incident report.

Halbur was charged with assault causing bodily injury or mental illness, three counts of assault on persons in certain occupations and interference with official acts.
