Semi with grain trailer crashes in ditch

A 62-year-old Merrill man received minor injuries in a semitruck accident about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the intersection of 390th Street and Cherry Avenue, six miles north of Hawarden.

HAWARDEN—A 62-year-old Merrill man received minor injuries in a semitruck accident about 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the intersection of 390th Street and Cherry Avenue, six miles north of Hawarden.

Michael Allyn Holtz was driving a 2011 Volvo semi pulling a grain trailer north on Cherry Avenue when he lost control of the vehicle on an eastbound curve in the roadway and the vehicle entered the north ditch and rolled, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.

Holtz was transported by the Hawarden Ambulance to Hawarden Regional Healthcare.

He was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle.

The semi and trailer received an estimated $50,000 damage.
