LARCHWOOD—A 29-year-old Rock Rapids woman was seriously injured when her SUV struck a school bus about 8 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, near Larchwood.

No injuries were reported from those on the bus.

Alyssa Lynne Sattler of Rock Rapids was driving on Highway 9 when her 2020 Chevrolet Trax struck the rear of a 2017 International school bus owned by the West Lyon School District at the intersection with Cleveland Avenue, about two miles southeast of Larchwood, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

The bus, driven by 41-year-old Kristi Elaine Ageson of Lester, had slowed down, waiting for oncoming traffic to pass to make a left turn onto Cleveland Avenue.

Sattler was transported to by the Lyon County Ambulance to Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Sattler was cited with failure to stop in an assured distance.

Her vehicle was totaled.

The school bus received an estimated $3,000 damage.

Authorities said the accident remains under investigation.
