INWOOD—A 28-year-old Rock Valley man was arrested about 4 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, near Inwood on charges of first-offense operating while under the influence and failure to maintain control of his vehicle.
The arrest of Jason Lee Van Ginkel stemmed from the investigation of a report of a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup in the ditch while attempting to turn off Highway 18 onto 270th Street about three miles south of Inwood, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
He had bloodshot, watery eyes; slurred speech; impaired balance; and the odor of an alcoholic beverage and failed preliminary sobriety tests.
Van Ginkel told the deputy he was on his way home and dealing with a bloody nose, which resulted in him being distracting and going in the ditch, according to the incident report.
He also admitted to drinking alcohol and that he was not safe to be operating a motor vehicle.
