SHELDON— Perspective Insurance will sponsor a Red Out at the Sheldon High School basketball games against West Lyon on Friday, Feb. 7.
The proceeds from the event will go to one of four local causes. The four are:
- East Elementary for slide repairs and water bottle stations.
- Sheldon High School for the Backpack Program, which is not funded by the state.
- Kadens Kloset, supporting foster and adoptive families, children in care, teens, expectant mothers and local families in need.
- Love In the Name of Christ of Greater O’Brien County, which receives requests from area agencies, churches or pastors, individuals or families in need.
Raffle tickets will be sold before the games for $1 for one or six for $5. The raffle tickets then will be used to vote for an organization.
Along with raising money that evening there will be a Valentine’s Day Box competition for students in grades kindergarten through fourth. All children who would like to enter the contest should decorate a shoebox and bring it to the Perspective Insurance office. The top four boxes will win a prize and be recognized at the basketball game. The boxes are due by 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, and the winners will be announced on the Perspective Insurance Facebook page on Feb. 4. People may vote for their favorite boxes on the Perspective Facebook page Jan. 27-31.
The first-place winner in the box contest receives a $50 gift card to Krull Cinemas in Sheldon. Second place receives a 10-visit punch card for the Sheldon Family Outdoor Aquatic Center. Third place receives a $20 gift card to Taco John’s and fourth receives a $10 gift card to McDonald’s.
Fans are encouraged to wear red to the game. T-shirts are being sold with orders due by noon Friday, Jan. 17.
There will be free sugar cookies for the first 96 fans and free popcorn for everyone during the game. There also will be a shooting contest at each varsity game for a chance to win $100.
