PAULLINA—A 36-year-old Paullina man was arrested about 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, on charges of first-offense operating while under the influence, driving while barred, violation of a restricted license, first-offense possession of a controlled substance — marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of contraband in a correctional institution.
The arrest of Allen Anthony Unseld stemmed from the stop of a 2012 Chevrolet Impala on the 4500 mile of Highway 59 about three miles northeast of Paullina, according to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
Unseld had bloodshot, watery eyes and the odor of marijuana, although he “had a squirted lots of cologne on him trying to mask the odor of marijuana,” according to court documents.
He also failed preliminary sobriety tests.
Unseld allowed a search of his vehicle and a digital scale was located.
After Unseld was transported to the county jail in Primghar, he was observed on the jail camera “suspiciously adjusting an unknown item in the crotch area,” according to court documents.
Unseld refused a required strip search and while resisting a bag of marijuana fell onto the floor.
He later admitted to jail staff that he hidden the bag of marijuana in a pocket in his underwear, according to court documents.
