SIOUX CENTER—A 19-year-old Orange City resident was arrested about 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, in Sioux Center on charges of fifth-degree theft and first-offense possession/purchase of alcohol under age.
The arrest of Kaytelynn Nichole Anne Severson stemmed from a report of theft at Walmart, according to the Sioux Center Police Department.
Witnesses told an officer they saw Severson put jewelry inside her book bag.
A portion of cardboard packaging from the jewelry was found inside the book bag.
Officers also obtained camera footage of Severson picking out jewelry inside the store and footage of her walking to a trash can in the Walmart parking lot.
Officers searched the trash can and located the stolen jewelry.
Severson admitted she placed the stolen jewelry near the trash can, according to the incident report.
Officer also were told Severson was in possession of alcohol.
An unsealed bottle of Mountain Dew Code Red was located. Severson said it was mixed with rum and belonged to her mother, according to the incident report.
