ORANGE CITY—A 53-year-old Orange City man faces two counts of fifth-degree theft for taking cigarettes twice in the same week from the same store.
John Wayne Rassel allegedly entered Don’s Food Center in Orange City and took a couple of packs of cigarettes and put them in his shorts pocket at about 2:25 p.m. Sunday, June 30, according to the Orange City Police Department.
Rassel also went to the beer cooler and took three beer cans out and put them in his shorts.
He then went to the check out and purchased a candy bar and then left the store without paying for the cigarettes and beer, which had an estimated value of $20.
Rassel allegedly returned to Don’s Food Center about 3:05 p.m. Thursday, July 4, and took two packs of cigarettes and put them in his shorts pocket.
He then continued to shop for other items and then went to the check out, purchasing the other items but not paying for the cigarettes in his pocket and left the store.
The store owner confronted Rassel when he left the store and contacted law enforcement.
The cigarettes were valued at $12.58.
