ALTON—A 37-year-old Denison woman was injured in a fiery crash about 5:20 p.m. Thursday Sept. 16, on the Highway 60 expressway one mile north of Alton.
Kayleen Sharon Johanna Stallman was driving north when her 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan struck a cattle trailer behind a 2021 Peterbilt semitruck driven by 38-year-old Michael James Nelson, of Crescent, who had slowed to turn east onto 440th Street, according to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office.
The van caught fire after the crash and Stallman was trapped inside the vehicle until another motorist freed her.
Stallman was transported by the Alton Ambulance to Orange City Area Health System and later flown to MercyOne Medical Center in Sioux City for further medical treatment.
She was cited for following too close and driving while her license was denied, suspended, canceled or revoked.
Her vehicle received an estimated $10,000 damaged. The trailer received an estimated $20,000 damage.
