GAZA—One person was injured in a two-vehicle collision about 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, about a mile northwest of Gaza.
Sixty-year-old Kelly Vern Nieuwenhuis of Primghar was driving west on 430th Street when he attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Sorrel Avenue and his 2013 GMC Sierra struck an eastbound 2001 Pontiac Montana driven by 22-year-old Jacob Steven Rook of Primghar, according to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.
Nieuwenhuis told authorities he looked down inside his pickup and when he looked up the van was in the path of his vehicle as it was making its left-hand turn.
Rook was transported by a friend to MercyOne Primghar Medical Center. No other injuries were reported.
Nieuwenhuis was cited for failure to yield when making a left turn.
Both vehicles were totaled.
