PRIMGHAR—A 36-year-old Melvin man was arrested about 1:35 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, near Primghar on charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, providing false identification information and driving while his license was denied, suspended, canceled or revoked.

The arrest of Jason Albert Butch Engelkes stemmed from the stop of a 2002 Ford Focus at the intersection of 360th Street and Taft Avenue about five miles northeast of Primghar, according to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy recognized Engelkes and knew he had a suspended license.

Engelkes tried telling the deputy he was his brother and provided a false name, date of birth and Social Security number, according to the incident report.

He also tried to hide a bag of meth by dropping it on the ground on the passenger side of the patrol vehicle he was standing by.
