ROCK RAPIDS—A 48-year-old Remsen man was arrested Thursday, Oct. 17, on charges of possession of a controlled substance — third or subsequent offense, possession of drug paraphernalia, interference with official acts resulting in bodily injury, failure to provide proof of vehicle insurance and driving while his license was denied, suspended, canceled or revoked.
The arrest of Michael Julius Winter stemmed from an attempt to stop a 2008 Pontiac G8 for a traffic violation on the 100 block of South Lincoln Street in Rock Rapids shortly before midnight Wednesday, Oct. 16, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
Upon the activation of emergency lights, Winter pulled into a parking lot and fled the vehicle on foot, according to court documents.
The deputy gave chase on foot, but fell and received bloodied scrapes to his hand and knee.
A search warrant was obtained the next day for the vehicle in which marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found.
