HAWARDEN—A 41-year-old Alcester, SD, man was arrested about 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2, on a charge of second-offense operating while under the influence.
The arrest of Patrick Charles Parks stemmed from a report by an employee of the Big Sioux Recreation Area west of Hawarden that Parks had driven to the park. Parks said he did not have money for a day pass but that he would just be 10 minutes inside the park. The employee reported the Parks had a beer between his legs while driving.
A Sioux County Conservation ranger initiated a stop of the vehicle and was assisted by another conservation officer.
The officer performed field sobriety tests that Parks failed.
