DOON—A 37-year-old rural Larchwood man was arrested about 12:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, in Doon on charges of first-offense simulated public intoxication; no vehicle registration; driving while his license was denied, suspended, canceled or revoked; and failure to provide proof of vehicle liability insurance.

The arrest of Jed Francis DeSmet stemmed from a report regarding a suspicious man in Doon, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities determined DeSmet had driven his 2001 Ford Explorer out of gas in the 2600 block of Garfield Avenue, just south of Doon and was walking around town looking for anyone who was awake to ask for gas.

He had bloodshot, watery eyes and was simulating intoxication, according to the incident report.

DeSmet became irate with the responding deputy and highly uncooperative.
