ROCK RAPIDS—A 27-year-old Rock Rapids man was arrested about 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, on a warrant for first-offense sex offender registration violation.

The arrest of Aaron John VandeKamp stemmed from his quarterly sex offender verification meeting, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.

During the meeting authorities discovered VandeKamp had Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok accounts that he failed to register within the allotted five days as required as a registered sex offender.

The social media accounts fall under the category of “internet identifiers” as part of the relevant information VandeKamp is required to verify.

The Snapchat account was created in November of 2019, the Facebook account in December of 2019 and the TikTok account created in October of 2020, according to court documents.

VandeKamp is on the sex offender registry — and federal probation — for an offense in 2015 when he solicited what he thought to be a 15-year-old girl for prostitution on the internet.

He was transported to the county jail in Rock Rapids, where he posted a $2,000 bond and was released.

The warrant was issued April 27.
