GEORGE—A 34-year-old George man was arrested about 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, on charges of first-offense operating while under the influence, possession of an open container of alcohol, speeding, failure to use headlamps when required and two counts of child endangerment.
The arrest of Marius Wijnand Dideric Versteeg stemmed from the stop of a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup at the intersection of Jay Avenue and 210th Street about a mile west of George for speeding and operating without its headlights, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
Versteeg had bloodshot/watery eyes, impaired balance, slurred speech, the odor of an alcoholic beverage and an open container of alcohol and failed field sobriety tests, according to the incident report.
He had left two girls, ages 4 and 2, unsupervised at his home.
