LARCHWOOD—A 36-year-old Larchwood man faces more charges after his initial arrest about 2:05 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, on a Lyon County warrant.
The additional charges against Daniel Lee Viereck stemmed from the stop of a 2008 Kia Sorento in the parking lot at Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort northwest of Larchwood after a deputy recognized him and knew he was wanted on a warrant for numerous charges, according to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
A bag of methamphetamine was found in his pants pocket and two meth pipes were found in a backpack when he was placed under arrest, according to the incident report.
He was charged with second-offense possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and no valid driver’s license.
Viereck had been wanted on charges of two counts of second-degree theft; two counts of third-degree burglary; third-degree burglary — motor vehicle; two counts of third-degree theft; unlawfully manufacturing, delivering or possessing with intent to manufacture or deliver a controlled substance — methamphetamine; second-offense possession of controlled substance — methamphetamine; second-offense possession of controlled substance — marijuana; and dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon.
The warrant, issued Aug. 9, stemmed from burglaries reported Oct. 4 at a residence near Larchwood, where several items including a chain saw were taken; May 18 at a residence in Larchwood, where a 55-gallon trash can, billiards cues, two shotguns and about $200 in change were stolen from an unattached garage; and June 21 at a business in Inwood where tools and electrical wire valued at about $2,800 were taken from a service truck.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Viereck’s residence at 809 Edgerly St. on July 24 and many of the items were recovered. Authorities also seized tools reported stolen from a burglary in October in Rapid City, SD.
Law enforcement also discovered at least 5 grams of methamphetamine near a scale, a plastic bag containing marijuana, a seed grinder containing marijuana, small plastic baggies, cutting instruments, measuring cups, and a loaded Walther 7.65 mm handgun.
