HAWARDEN—The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information regarding a motor vehicle accident that occurred about 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at the intersection of 420th Street and Cherry Avenue, one mile northeast of Hawarden, IA.
Twenty-two-year-old Brooke McDonald of Valley City, ND, was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala north on Cherry Avenue when a dark-colored SUV traveling west on 420th failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection, according to authorities.
McDonald swerved to avoid striking the SUV, lost control of her vehicle, struck a Sioux County Highway Department traffic sign and entered the east ditch. The SUV continued driving and was not located.
No injuries were reported.
The McDonald vehicle received an estimated $4,000 damage. The traffic sign received an estimated $100 damage.
