HAWARDEN—A 26-year-old Hawarden man was arrested Monday, June 3, on charges of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and fourth-degree criminal mischief — hate crime.

The arrest of Narcisse J. Wood Jr. stemmed from a call regarding an assault shortly before 1 a.m. Monday, May 27, in Hawarden, according to the Hawarden Police Department.

His sister told an officer that she and her brother got into an argument that turned physical.

Wood threw his sister to the ground and choked her and punched her television, causing it to no longer work, according to court document.

A warrant was issued for Wood’s arrest on May 29.
