Kimberly Loose

“Gone Cold: Exploring Iowa’s unsolved murders” is a yearlong collaborative effort by Iowa news organizations to revisit some of the most brutal and mystifying homicides in the state’s history. The N’West Iowa REVIEW is presenting some of the unsolved homicides in the hope that it will lead to new tips and potentially help solve cases. The Jan. 9 issue of The REVIEW features the case of Kimberly “Kim” Loose, 16, of Walcott, and Craig Allen Petersen, 20, of Blue Grass. Loose died Sept. 26, 1986, when she allegedly was thrown from the passenger seat of a car driven by Petersen’s best friend. Petersen died two days later; his body found floating in the Mississippi River.
