'Gone Cold'

“Gone Cold: Exploring Iowa’s unsolved murders” is an ongoing collaborative effort by Iowa news organizations to revisit some of the most brutal and mystifying homicides in Iowa’s history. The N’West Iowa REVIEW is presenting some of Iowa’s unsolved homicides in the hope that it will lead to new tips and potentially help solve cases.

“Gone Cold: Exploring Iowa’s unsolved murders” is a yearlong collaborative effort by Iowa news organizations to revisit some of the most brutal and mystifying homicides in the state’s history. The N’West Iowa REVIEW is presenting some of the unsolved homicides in the hope that it will lead to new tips and potentially help solve cases. The March 19 issue of The REVIEW features the case of John Stephens, a 32-year-old off-duty police officer, and Paul Rayer, a 51-year-old restaurant owner, who were found shot to death at Club 64, a steakhouse near Council Bluffs on Dec. 5, 1967.
