'Gone Cold'

“Gone Cold: Exploring Iowa’s unsolved murders” is an ongoing collaborative effort by Iowa news organizations to revisit some of the most brutal and mystifying homicides in Iowa’s history. The N’West Iowa REVIEW is presenting some of Iowa’s unsolved homicides in the hope that it will lead to new tips and potentially help solve cases.

REGIONAL—There are five unsolved murders in the four-county area that makes up N’West Iowa, according to Iowa Cold Cases, a website founded by Jody Ewing of Onawa.

Iowa Cold Cases describes itself as “the state’s first and foremost repository of Iowa’s unsolved murders and persons missing under mysterious circumstances.”

Founded in 2005, iowacoldcases.org describes its goal as providing “case summaries for each victim while encouraging those with information to contact appropriate law enforcement officials with any known details about the crime.”

According to the website, there are four cold cases in Sioux County, one in Lyon County and none in O’Brien or Osceola counties.

Read summaries about each case in the Aug. 15 issue of The N’West Iowa REVIEW and look for stories about these cases and more in Iowa over the next year.
